And finally, a gift from the illustrator sanxian:
(click for full-size)
Eirendi aka Eiri, nijibug's lovely character from her story Sand Dance!

I have much love for this character (her and Ceru too), so drawing her was a very special experience. I listened to KOKIA's song, "Ningentte Sonna Mono ne", pretty much non-stop since I started drawing her. I guess I can associate the lyrics with her characters, even if I don't even know her story very well (yet!).

"We are all naked
All searching for warmth
Amid all our weakness and sadness
And trying to move forward somehow"

This song really moves me. It's sad, yet full of hope. Kind of the same feeling I get from her characters.

I really hope you like it, niji!♥
Was that just the sound of my heart breaking? Q___Q God, sanxian's style is beyond beautiful. I could never render my own characters with so much grace. I'm glad my brainchildren mean so much to you. It's more than I could possibly deserve! Thank you thank you and thank you~~~

Subject line is a quote from the second volume of Takeru, which arrived yesterday; I just read it this morning. I'm continually floored by the pacing of this series, although I can't give Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann) too much credit considering it is after all a 4-volume adaptation of a really tightly constructed play. But that doesn't make reading it any less delicious.

More fight sequences in this second installment, and if you know Karakarakemuri (the manga-ka) at all, that's a good thing. Honestly. Takeru is an action manga, and Karakarakemuri is god's gift to action manga. The fight sequences are orgasmic, like, hypothetically I would worry about anything less than a studio like Production I.G. throwing in Moribito amounts of funding, talent, time, and just overall distilled epic to animate Takeru.

I don't think I was very emphatic about this point the first couple of times I blogged this series but take it from me, buy the licensed releases of Takeru. Not only has TokyoPop translated an absolutely stellar script, the art inside is just so delectable (I know it's hard to tell from the minimalistic covers) that you'll want to be holding this baby in your hands. Scanlations just don't do Takeru justice.

Besides, there are only 4 volumes (and one unlicensed gaiden, but the scanlations for that are really decent).

I think there's a problem with my calendar; it keeps getting stuck back on Monday. I'm fairly certain it was just Monday yesterday ...

Still, temporal distortion aside, onwards to the weekly update.

my foolish heart insists on pumping human blood
I'll find some parched, barren excuse to love you
No matter what you've done

(Morgon met the High One's harpist on an autumn day
Trade-ships filled with seaweed creatures
Bore him far away

(Woke up void of voice or mem'ries, lying in the sand
A white-eyed prince dressed all in tatters
Took him by the hand)

You know, I woke up with just those words in my head and a melody that quickly escaped me. Maybe I should read the Riddle-Master trilogy again. And then again, maybe not. I don't think my heart can take much more gnawing.

I just remembered how much I love Prince Astrin ♥

Good morning afternoon evening $time_of_day, Dreamwidth! After discovering once again that February has 28 days (you'd think we'd remember this by now), and since the Olympics are over (seriously, did you see that hockey game yesterday?) and I need something to do with the time that was devoted to actually watching TV (it's a once-every-two-years activity), Mark has handed over the weekly update to me for my turn at the helm.

One incredibly long sentence later, let's start in on the update.

And my heart but a helpless popcorn kernel ♥

(Attempting to describe the effect that Phoenix Wright & Miles Edgeworth seem to have on me in a midnight gmail chat with [livejournal.com profile] artemis_elric.)

Oh, and this gem of an analogy sallied forth from the lips of the small brother person today: "A snail is to a slug as a euphonium is to a bari sax." (Did I miss out for not doing band in school? I think I did.)

Anyway.

I'm happy to report that this little guy

has found a home with [personal profile] tn. She has named him Ricky, and she loves him dearly. (If you'll recall, [personal profile] tn made me this darling Earth Day card last year. She is quite often associated with acorns with happy faces.)

For anyone who is still interested in following the ugly drama that is the Bleach plagiarism... Nick Simmons released an official statement on the matter and, surprise surprise, he denies the tracing.

You know what? If the kid had owned up to his mistake, I might have been able to respect him for that. As it stands, I am bitterly disappointed and have no more to say on this matter.
